Whether you own a gun, live with someone who does, or just want to be part of the solution to gun violence, you can make a difference.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
EVERYONE HAS A ROLE TO PLAY.
The impact of safe gun storage can stretch far beyond your front door.
GUN OWNERS
Every responsible choice counts, and the impact of safe gun storage reaches far beyond our individual homes. Responsible gun ownership means handling guns correctly and storing them securely.
LIVING WITH GUNS
By promoting safe storage and open dialogue, we can protect those we care about and foster a culture of personal responsibility. Talking about guns can feel awkward. So get the facts and the resources you need to have open, honest conversations. You might just save someone’s life.
PROFESSIONALS
Together, we can make a big impact by reducing accidents, understanding how to encourage secure storage and use Extreme Risk Protection Orders when necessary, and creating a safer Colorado for everyone.

RESOURCES
Let’s lead by example and show the world that Colorado gun owners are committed to safety.

1 in 20 adult Coloradans have a loaded gun stored unlocked in their home. This is a risk factor for not only accidental injury, but also for firearms to be stolen, accessed by children or used in a moment of crisis for the purpose of self-harm. If guns are locked and unloaded, it can prevent violence, suicide, and theft.

37% of adult Coloradans indicated they currently had firearms in their home. Ensuring the guns are locked and unloaded, can prevent violence, suicide, and theft.

In one study , almost half of the people who attempted suicide made the decision to attempt suicide 10 minutes or less before taking action to do so. People rarely employ other methods if the first option is unavailable. Using a gun lock or safe can save a life.

16.8% of Colorado teens say it would be “sort of easy” or “very easy” for them to access a handgun. Talking with your kids about guns and making sure your firearms are securely stored can decrease their likelihood of becoming involved in gun violence.

An average of 3,336 firearms were reported stolen from private citizens in Colorado each year between 2017 and 2021.

8 American teens and kids are accidentally shot every day with unlocked firearms. Safely securing guns will save lives.

90% of people who survive a suicide attempt will not go on to die by suicide. That means that removing highly lethal forms of suicide - like guns - can save lives.

Between 2016 and 2022, an average of 911 people in Colorado died each year due to guns.

Colorado students who reported feeling sad or hopeless, had been in a fight, or who had attempted suicide, were more likely to say they had access to handguns.
